In 2004, an executive at Procter & Gamble Professional (PGP) decided to shake things up at the nation’s largest restaurant-industry convention, by creating an emotional selling platform all his own.
He envisioned a concert and networking event in which his sales team could invite a group of key customers and prospect customers, thereby cutting through the clutter of the convention floor crowd.
His first call was to Cord Management, and one year later the VIP experience One Night Only was born.
Soon thereafter, Smucker’s, Nestle and a few other household brands joined PGP in what has turned into the premiere after-hours networking event during the restaurant-industry’s biggest trade show of the year.
Nine years later we’re still at it.
In 2013 One Night Only welcomed Sheryl Crow and 1,200 key decision makers to the House of Blues in Chicago. And when we introduced Sheryl to PGP’s lead executive backstage, the superstar shared a memorable story that no one saw coming.
Turns out that following college graduation, Sheryl’s first job interview was with Procter & Gamble – and she humbly admitted that she didn’t get the job. She also said that while disappointed at the time, it probably wasn’t such a bad thing in the long run.
An hour later, she shared the story again from center stage. After shouts of “thank goodness” were heard coming from the crowd, she laughed for a moment, nodded to her band, then launched into another hit song for the capacity crowd.
If you’re a Sheryl Crow fan, check out her newest CD, “Feels Like Home,” coming out in September. And if you’re interested in bringing her to your next corporate or private event, give Cord Management a call and we’ll take care of the rest.
