Ever wonder what it would be like backstage at your favorite concert?
Many people think backstage (or more accurately, side-stage) would be the “best seat in the house.” But truth is, it’s often not the best place to hear the music and see the band.
One reason is that the sound isn’t very good backstage. Few of the instruments are clearly audible, as the sound speakers are aimed towards the audience. The result backstage is a mish-mash of sounds, with some instruments barely heard at all.
For the best seats in the house, look for the soundboard in the middle of the venue and head that direction. Quite often that’s the best sounding place in the room, with spot-on site lines as well.
