Behind the Curtain – Feb ’13

So, you’re interested in spicing up your convention, trade show, or other corporate event. Good idea! Consider music as the “X factor.”

So what band should you pick for your big night?

Begin by considering your audience – after all, you’re doing this for them, right? Keep your audience demographics and psychographics in mind, then ask yourself the following:

What genre of music will my attendees find most appealing?

Would attendees like to see an act who is on the current (radio) charts, or an older act who may no longer be on the cutting edge of the music scene, but still resonates?

Another way to frame this choice is by asking this powerful question:

Do I want to create new memories for my audience, or stir old memories?

You may choose to go “old school” (classic rock, 80’s pop, R&B, etc.), in which case you’ll see guests singing every word to every song. Afterwards, they’ll tell you how much they enjoyed the band and share crazy stories from 30+ years ago. This can be a good thing, or TMI – depending on how comfortable your new best friend becomes during this euphoric moment.

If you go “new school,” the band’s set length won’t be quiet as long, the average age of your guest won’t be 50-something, and your customers will return home raving about the hip new band they saw. And you will be recognized as ahead of the curve – musically speaking at least.

Now there are options between these extremes, but hopefully you get the picture. Regardless of your choice, Cord Management can help you find the right act, at the right price, for your audience.

And speaking of price – if you’re wondering how much it costs to hire a popular band, sit tight. We’ll address that question in future newsletters (or you can always call our office at 615-866-5003 if you must know now).

Next month we’ll discuss what happens once your boss approves a concert budget and you’ve brainstormed with colleagues about ideal acts. With those pieces of information in hand, the wheels will be put in motion by making the first round of calls – to the booking agents.
